Precision grinding of complex parts simplified

Combining GE-Fanuc Touchscreen technology with Jones and Shipman's advanced Grinding and Dressing software suite provides precision grinding of complex shapes, angles, radii and surfaces.

Visitors to the Jones and Shipman booth at IMTS, Chicago, USA, will witness for themselves the latest advances in the art of surface, cylindrical and creepfeed grinding simplification, obtained by combining GE-Fanuc Touchscreen technology with Jones and Shipman's ultra advanced Grinding and Dressing software suite. Called its 'Easy' range by Jones and Shipman, this control provides the capabilities to interpolate two or more axes simultaneously to provide precision grinding of complex shapes, angles, radii and surfaces, with quick and easy set-up. Two of the three grinders in booth 6846, Hall B, will have their first showing in the US.

First is the Suprema Cylindrical Grinder, designed by grinders for grinders following a review of the markets needs and desire for a high performance cylindrical grinder at an affordable price.

This is complemented by the all new Dominator Easy a very special surface, profile and creepfeed grinder and the very popular 524 Easy surface grinder which has already established itself in toolrooms and production shops throughout the States.

Called 'Dream Machines' by their operators all models have been specifically designed to offer unrivalled ease-of-use coupled to the highest levels of accuracy and productivity.

Each machine has functionality comparable to many conventional CNC systems.

This when combined with Jones and Shipman's 'Easy' software provides the benefits of faster set-ups and changeover times with faster simpler production of components.

Features available on all models include 'intelligent roughing out' of the grinding wheel which enables a new wheel form to be quickly and efficiently 'chopped out' to a basic profile and then finished dressed using the exact profile.

This happens automatically the operator just selects 'new wheel' and the machine then does the rest, unmanned! wheel dressing can be initiated In or Out of cycle and a 'Dress-On-Demand' function for plain or complex wheel forms is standard.

One feature, which has the potential to save grinding shops many hours of work and enables sophisticated and expensive components to be saved from the reject bin, is a 'regrind' function.

This can be applied to any individual element of a linked grind cycle and incidentally up to 20 grind cycles can be linked together at any one time.

A final and extremely useful addition to all Jones and Shipman 'Easy' surface, cylindrical and creepfeed models is the capability for complex programs to be simply and quickly uploaded to or downloaded from a PC, PDA or Network as required for storage or recall.

The 'Easy' range of high precision grinders fits within a comprehensive range of Precision grinding machine Solutions manufactured by Jones and Shipman, a British company established for over 100 years and in the US for over 50 years, to meet the rigorous demands of US Industry.
