Compact CNC chuckers offer plenty of power
Pollard Mori Seiki's extremely compact CL Series of CNC chucking lathes offer superior rigidity to support continuous high speed machining of production components. When compared with 410mm turning diameter CNC lathes of similar capacity, the CL Series offer a larger work area. Spindle speed ranges are up to 6000 rev/min.
Rapid feed rates up to 30m/min considerably reduce non-cutting times.
The CL Series feature a rigid, substantially ribbed box bed, which offers stable continuous machining.
This extra rigidity prolongs tool life and dampens vibrations, for example, which result from interrupted cutting.
Into a volume of 1450mm width by a 1768mm deep footprint and 1765mm high, Mori Seiki has designed into the CL-153 and CL-203 a maximum turning diameter of 410mm and a maximum turning length of 290mm.
The 7.5/5.5kW spindle has a bore diameter of 43mm and a steplessly variable spindle speed range of 60-6000 rev/min.
The CL-153's 12-station turret has an indexing time of 0.7sec station-to-station and 1.4sec to the furthest station.
Rapid traverse rate is 30m/min in the X and Z axis.
Achievable surface roughness when turning is 0.97 micron Ra and roundness is 0.64 micron.
The CL-203, with a maximum spindle speed of 4500 rev/min, has a working area of 410mm diameter by 290mm or 550mm.
Maximum bar diameter accepted can be 51mm (A variant) or 65mm (B-variant).
The B-variants also have a higher power 11/7.5kW spindle with a lower speed range of 35-3500 rev/min, to give a higher turning torque characteristics for turning tougher steels and alloys.
A 10-tool turret is fitted to the B variants.
The CL-203A and CL-203B machines are also equipped with a tailstock, which has 410mm of travel and tailstock spindle travel is 120mm.
There are milling versions of the CL-153 and 203 machines.
These are the CL-153M, CL-203AM and CL-203BM.
Mori Seiki has provided plenty of milling power in its rotary tool spindles: 4.6/3.5kW with speed ranges up to 3000 rev/min or optionally, 6000 rev/min.
To illustrate the machines' end-milling capacity, a 13mm diameter high speed steel, twin-fluted end mill will cut S45C grade steel with a spindle speed of 530 rev/min, at a feedrate of 137.8 mm/min.
Cutting depth is 10mm.
Overall machine capacity and specifications of the M-variants are broadly similar to the CL-153 and 203A and B types.
For the CL Series, Mori Seiki offers the MSG-803 CNC with conversational automatic programming and features the MAPPS new generation operating system.
It includes full simulation of workpiece and cutting paths, tool listing, time studies, soft jaw turning programs, program editing, maintenance management, data input/output and optional networking.
For unmanned working, Mori Seiki offers gantry loading systems and bar feeder units.
Pollard Mori Seiki, in Milton Keynes, in conjunction with Fredk Pollard and Co in Leicester, will engineer complete automation cells and systems based on the Mori Seiki SL Series of CNC lathes.
