Two-axis Kitamura CNC lathes are competitive
A new range of four competitively priced CNC lathes with bar capacities from 25 mm to 42 mm and chuck sizes between 80 mm and 140 mm diameter are now available from Traub Heckert UK of Brackley. Manufactured by Kitamura Machine Works, the KNC 50, KNC 100, KNC 70 and KNC 150, two-axis machines have been developed as fast cycling, quick to set, stand- alone machines. Also, with the attachment of various automation packages, from simple gravity-fed magazines to fully integrated robot loading, the machines are ideal for operation under low manning type shift environments.
The KNC 50 and KNC 100 are front operated utilising a compound platen with up to eight and 10 tools respectively.
Both machines have 25 mm bar or 110 mm chuck capacity with X-axis travels of 230 mm and 300 mm and Z-axis travels of 250 mm and 270 mm respectively.
Spindle power is 5.5 kW for both machines with a top speed of 6,000 and 5,000 revs/min.
The KNC 70 and KNC 150 have 25 mm and 42 mm bar capacities with 80/110 mm and 140 mm respective chuck sizes.
Both machines have eight position conventional turrets with the KNC 150 featuring a swing-in style tailstock.
The 3.7 kW spindle drive of the KNC 70 gives 6,000 revs/min with an X-axis of 80 mm and Z-axis of 200 mm.
The larger machine has a 7.5 kW drive, 5,000 revs/min spindle and 100 mm by 240 mm strokes in X and Z.
All machines are controlled by Fanuc 21-TB with macros for standard machining cycles.
This same control can also be specified to direct an optional integrated gantry loading robot on the KNC 50 machine version using G and M code programming with axis speeds through ballscrew drives of 50 m/min in X and 48 m/min in Z.
On this machine components up to 55 mm by 40 mm and weighing up to 0.5 kg each can be accommodated by the twin arm loader supplied via parts stacker, programmable pallet tray or cassette.
