5G acceleration machining centre beats rivals

By comparison with machining centres with conventional drives, the travelling column design of this linear motored model provides better performance by a factor or three.

Not only has DMG's DMF linear series found wide acceptance in tool and mould construction, its pendulum machining option and wide choice of spindles has extended its use in the wider production community. With the introduction of the latest addition to this range - the DMF 250 linear - DMG now has a mid-range model to add to its fleet. The linear drive on the 2500mm long X-axis of this latest model provides traversing speeds of up to 100m/min., and an acceleration of 5G; the Y-axis is 920mm.

By comparison with other machining concepts with conventional drives, the travelling column design of the DMF 250 linear provides better performance by a factor or three.

High precision is not compromised by high speed and the DMF 250 has been engineered to provide this same high performance for many productive years.

These qualities ensure the DMF 250 linear is an exceptionally good investment.

The machine's capacious working space and 3100mm x 900mm large and rigid table enables long and bulky workpieces to be easily accommodated.

These features are complemented by the performance of the standard 12,000 rev/min spindle that delivers a torque of 130Nm.

The overall high dynamic rigidity of the machine design ensures optimal cutting conditions for both rough cutting and finishing.

In addition to this standard spindle, vertical spindles may be specified for 3-axis operation to provide 35kW of power for 18,000 rev/min and 48kW for 10,000 rev/min.

There are also two variants for 4-axis machining.

The user has the choice between a swivelling milling head with controlled b-axis delivering 35kW at 18,000 rev/min or an indexable milling head providing 48kW at 10,000 rev/min that can be set through +/-100 deg in increments of 1 deg.

All spindle options are available with steep-angle tapers and HSK mounts.

The tools are uploaded during the production cycle from a magazine that can accommodate up to 30 tools.

A tool-shelf magazine may alternatively be specified for storing 80, ISO 50 or 120, ISO 40 tools.

As standard the new DMF 250 linear is installed with a Siemens 840D powerline controller with ShopMill software; the iTNC 530 from Heidenhain is an option.

Both CNC units are operated at the user-friendly DMG ControlPanel with a large 15in TFT screen.
