CNC Software Uses HASP for Enforcing Payment
CNC Software, Inc. provides state of the art software tools for CAD/CAM manufacturing markets, based on the users' needs to solve simple and complex design and machining problems. CNC's flagship product, Mastercam, offers solutions for designers and NC programmers involved in milling, turning, wire EDM, plasma cutting, lasers, and 3D design and drafting. CNC Software's customers range from one-person job shops to Fortune 100 manufacturers.
CNC uses HASP software protection keys to protect and securely distribute Mastercam via authorized dealers. The Mastercam suite includes several software packages and multiple add-on components. Customers receive a single HASP key for the entire Mastercam suite with licenses for all components and add-ons stored in the key's memory. CNC uses HASP4 M1 keys for stand-alone installations, and NetHASP keys in educational facilities with network environments where up to 100 users can activate Mastercam simultaneously.
CNC's distribution of Mastercam is based on a time-based license model, which enables them to enforce the payment terms. Using HASP, authorized Mastercam dealers can set and enforce a grace period, and remotely update the HASP with a permanent license after the customer fully pays for the software. This process of remote updating eliminates the need to send the HASP key back to the dealer to be reprogrammed with a permanent license code.
A customer receives the Mastercam component with authorization to activate it for a designated period of time. The grace period is stored in the HASP's memory. When the grace period is over and the customer purchases the software or component, the dealer sends the customer an activation code. The customer inserts this code into a remote update utility developed by CNC using the HASP API. This code extends the software license and stores the permanent activation license in HASP's memory.
The HASP software protection system provides CNC with numerous development options that are easy to implement. Using HASP, CNC is able to secure their software while creating a unique value-add upgrade solution for Mastercam dealers.
CNC is just one of many companies using HASP for more than software protection. If you're considering protecting your software, we invite you to contact us to learn more about how the HASP software protection system can also help you increase mind-share with your dealers and improve your software distribution channel.
